The Project


“Fair Food: Field to Table” is a multimedia presentation promoting a more socially just food system in the U.S. It was created by California Institute for Rural Studies and Rick Nahmias Photography.

Through the stories and voices of farmworkers, growers, businesses and fair food advocates, viewers learn about the harsh realities of farmworker conditions and, more importantly, the promise of improved farm labor practices in American agriculture. The growing movement for “fair food” is tapping into rising consumer demand for food produced in accordance with their values.

The presentation consists of three parts:

Part 2: The Farmers
Part 3: The Advocates

**CORRECTION: In section 3 “The Advocates”  the information regarding the Real Food Challenge was intended to indicate that the national campaign is working to shift $1 billion in food sourcing in higher education across the US and the University of California statewide policy is the largest public institutional commitment to get on board with the Real Food Challenge’s national commitment. The UC’s impact with respect to the policy will look to shift $80 million in food sourcing over the next decade contributing to the national momentum in the college youth food movement.
